Dorothy Tucker 'Earth Piece'

Friday 26th to Monday 29th July 2019

Bookings for Summer School 2019 will open in November. 2018.

The event will take place  at Hillscourt, Rednal, south of Birmingham

Our guest tutors for 2019 will be Alice Fox and Dorothy Tucker, working to a theme of Step Outside.

Dorothy will offer a workshop called 'Land parcels- patched, pieced and stitched'

Step outside and pause to explore and record a wealth of detail in a small parcel of land. We will mark out the arrangement of spaces, note the changes in sounds or texture, contrasts in light and shadows, fill in patterns given by plants or the wind, and search for the unexpected.

Interpreting these “findings”  through layering papers and fabrics , cutting away and stitching will lead into creating  a patched, pieced and stitched textile which can be rolled or folded into a parcel.

Alice will offer a workshop called 'Into the woods'

We will be gathering materials from outside to use in the studio in a variety of different ways.
We will use natural dye processes to mark and colour cloth, paper and thread, working with hand stitch to create samples and surfaces that record some of what we find in the woods.

Both workshops will be stimulating, informative and inspiring and will be designed to be accessible to all level 2 and 3 students.

Skills and experiences developed in either workshop will give you renewed enthusiasm and increase your confidence in your future coursework. Meet fellow students and share ideas. Be inspired and treat yourself.
