Join us at our next Distant Stitch Summer School in July at Hillscourt Centre.
Friday 24th to Monday 27th July 2020
Bookings for Summer School 2019 will open in November. 2019.
The event will take place at Hillscourt, Rednal, south of Birmingham.
Our Summer School is open to all our students, whatever the Course subject. The workshops will be aimed at students on levels 2 and 3 courses. Past students are welcome to join if places are available.
Our guest tutors for 2020 will be Amanda Clayton and Richard McVetis, both well known textile artists and teachers and members of the 62 Group of Textile Artists.
Amanda will offer a workshop called 'A Little Book of Leaves’
Richard will offer a workshop called ‘A Stitch Drawn’
The workshop will explore a combination of traditional hand embroidery techniques, exploring the versatility and strengths of embroidery for drawing and mark making; having the pleasure of time to make.
This is an experimental approach to stitch and draws on the imagination of each participant to create textures and patterns to mark make and draw using the most simple of hand embroidery techniques.
-To develop traditional hand embroidery skills
-To translate your own your thoughts and inspiration into stitch
-To develop an understanding of embroidery as a contemporary art medium
Both workshops will be stimulating, informative and inspiring and will be designed to be accessible to all level 2 and 3 students.
Skills and experiences developed in either workshop will give you renewed enthusiasm and increase your confidence in your future coursework. Meet fellow students and share ideas. Be inspired and treat yourself.
